In-Between 5-7-1

Her In-Between 5-7-1 work begins as a journey to explore her nomadic identity, during which she discovers the deeply rooted Korean spirit within herself. The Korean spirit encompasses not just ethnic identity, but a deep inner power and essence that transcends it. It is a fundamental concept that has shaped the unique identity of Korean culture, containing an inner energy woven from sincerity and longing. This spirit is rooted in the natural philosophy and worldview of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, following the principles of natural cycles. She explores the duality of light and darkness as fundamental aspects of Yin-Yang’s original nature. These two forces are opposing yet interconnected. Light symbolises hope, renewal, and positive energy, while darkness symbolizes transformation, healing, and growth. These elements are not separate; rather, darkness nurtures growth, and light reveals it, forming a natural cycle.

Through the growth of bean sprouts in a traditional Korean earthenware vessel, Siru, she explores the fundamental truth that creation arises from contrast. As the bean sprouts grow in darkness, eventually emerging as bright yellow shoots, this process embodies the profound insight that light can exist even in darkness. The principle that new energy arises from the clash of opposing forces is universal and deeply resonates with her.

The Siru is not merely a tool. It symbolizes resilience, renewal, and the hidden vitality within change. This realization has become the foundation of her artistic approach, leading her to explore the unseen forces that guide existence more deeply. Her work seeks to examine how these forces manifest in our lives and how the processes of transformation unfold.
